Areas We Serve – Suffolk County

Home / Areas We Serve – Suffolk County

The Law Firm of Mark S. Eghrari & Associates PLLC provides legal help in Suffolk County with estate planning and other elder law matters. Our firm has a strong local reputation as a trusted provider of comprehensive legal services to those who want to plan for a more secure future. Whether you are concerned about caring for your family if something happens to you, worried about protecting your assets, or focused on controlling your own future, we can help.

Representing Clients in Suffolk County

Suffolk County is considered to be a part of the greater Long Island area, as well as the easternmost part of the New York City metropolitan area. It is a suburban county spanning 86 miles in length and 26 miles in width with a population close to 1.5 million, which makes it the fourth most populated county within all of New York.

Suffolk County is home to multiple scientific research facilities, including Plum Island Animal Disease Center as well as the Brookhaven National Laboratory. It is a wealthy county, and ranked number four on the list of the top 25 richest counties in America, according to an American Community Survey conducted in 2008 by Forbes. The county’s median household income is close to $85,000.

With such high incomes, and with median home prices of $8.5 million in the 11962 zip code, estate planning and asset protection are essential to those living in and around Suffolk County. Estate planning is one of the many services that The Law Firm of Mark S. Eghrari & Associates PLLC offers to residents.

Senior Citizens in Suffolk County

In Suffolk County, many of the people who get estate planning help are seniors. A total of 11.8 percent of the population of Suffolk County is aged 65 or older. Seniors face a variety of unique issues that go along with the aging process, from concerns about what happens if they become incapacitated due to a serious illness to worries about how to pay for nursing home care. An elder law attorney can provide assistance addressing many of these issues.

We can also provide help with nursing home admissions paperwork and with protecting the rights of senior residents in nursing care facilities. Caring.com reports there are close to 50 nursing home facilities located in and around the Suffolk County area, but unfortunately some of these facilities have received very low ratings. We work hard to help seniors in Suffolk County not only afford nursing home care, but also understand and protect their rights when entering into a residential care environment.

Estate Planning & Elder Law Services in Suffolk County

While our legal team provides assistance to the senior community in Suffolk County, helping older people is not the only thing that elder law attorneys do. The median age in Suffolk County is 36-years of age and people both over and under this median age should ensure they have taken care of incapacity planning, retirement planning, asset protection, and estate planning. We offer assistance with these legal issues and many more. Elder law attorneys provide a wide variety of help to anyone who wants to plan for the future, to protect themselves financially, and to protect their families. We help with:

  • Wills
  • Trusts
  • Power of attorney
  • Advanced directives
  • Living wills
  • Nursing home and Medicaid planning

These are just some of the many ways that we help clients of all ages in Suffolk County. While many people know us because of the comprehensive estate planning services we offer seniors, there is much more that we do to give you a secure future.

Courts in Suffolk County Addressing Estate Issues

Avoiding court is often one of the top priorities of people involved in estate law matters. Many people want to pass their assets to their loved ones without the need for probate proceedings. Many people also create a power of attorney and make an incapacity plan in order to avoid guardianship proceedings in the event they are unable to make or communicate their own decisions. The Law Firm of Mark S. Eghrari & Associates PLLC helps clients with creating their plan to keep their personal and private issues from ending up in court.

Sometimes, however, probate or guardianship do become necessary. When this occurs, it is imperative to know the right courts in Suffolk County where a will can be probated, where guardianship proceedings can be initiated, or where other relevant legal matters can be resolved.

Suffolk County cases are generally resolved in the 10th Judicial District. Legal matters related to wills, trusts, and estates in particular are handled in Surrogate Court according to NY Courts.gov. When these legal matters are to be heard in the Surrogate Court serving Suffolk County residents, the court is located at 320 Center Drive in Riverhead, NY 11901. If you need to reach the probate department for this court, you can contact the department via phone at 631-852-1725. If you need assistance with the administration of small estates and want to reach the appropriate parties in the Suffolk County surrogate court, you can call 631-852-1713.

Whatever the size of the estate or the issues to address in Surrogate Court, it can be very confusing for people to understand the court process. The good news is, we can help. The Law Firm of Mark S. Eghrari & Associates PLLC represents executors, personal representatives, trustees, beneficiaries, heirs, and friends and family of a person who has passed away. If you have any issues with estates or elder law matters that may end up in Suffolk County court, we can provide the help you need.
