Whether you know it or not you are crafting some type of legacy as you are living your life. People are invariably remembered for the things that they have done, and this is something to keep in mind.
You can think about your legacy every step of the way, but admittedly younger adults are generally caught up in day-to-day affairs. However, when you’re planning your estate and the eventualities of aging are upon you the concept of legacy planning may seem quite a bit more relevant.
The keyboardist from The Doors, Ray Manzarek, died in May at the age of 74. He had been suffering from bile duct cancer, and though he was a Californian he died in Germany where he was receiving treatment.
As a musician who was a part of so many great songs he is part of a lasting musical legacy that will certainly withstand the test of time. In addition to his music he also contributed to rock ‘n roll history by penning a book that recounts his experience as a member of The Doors.
This book, Light My Fire, was published in 1999. Many observers feel as though this is the most interesting and insightful book written about The Doors.
While few of us will be part of a legendary rock band, many people are in a position to leave behind a charitable legacy. To this end the family of Ray Manzarek asks that those who are interested donate what they can to StandUp2Cancer.org as a token of remembrance.
